3 Known issues

3.1 Documents might be unavailable if you use SMB to connect to a server

If you use the Server Message Block (SMB) protocol to connect to a server, documents you open might be unavailable to other users regardless of the protocol they use to connect to the server. To avoid this issue, use the Apple Filing Protocol (AFP) to connect to external servers.

3.2 AutoRecover does not restore audio recordings

If Word stops responding while you are making an audio recording using notebook layout view and before you have saved a document, AutoRecover does not recover the audio recording. Word does recover text in the document.

3.3 Changing Compatibility preferences

If you change the Recommended options for setting on the Compatibility tab in the Preferences dialog box, the compatibility option setting will label the new setting as Custom. The correct options remain selected in the Options box, however.

3.4 Turning off Quick Preview improves performance in the Print dialog box

Turning off Quick Preview in the Print dialog box improves the performance of the print dialog box. To turn on or off Quick Preview, select or clear the Show Quick Preview check box in the Print dialog box.

3.5 Document versioning information might not appear in earlier versions of Word

Document versions created in Word 2004 do not appear when that document is opened in Word X for Mac or earlier, or Word 2000 for Windows or earlier. Document versions created in Word 2002 for Windows or later do not appear in Word 2004 for Mac.

3.6 Compatibility Report might unexpectedly report font substitution

In some cases, when you copy and paste text from another application, inconsistencies between font names can cause Word to substitute the font in the copied text with a font of the same name in Word. In such instances, the Compatibility Report might report that font substitution has occurred even though the font has not been changed.
