MSMQT fails with no error message when you send a message to @"DIRECT=OS:NoSuchMachine\private$\NoSuchQueue1" (870608)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft BizTalk Server 2004 Developer Edition
  • Microsoft BizTalk Server 2004 Enterprise Edition
  • Microsoft BizTalk Server 2004 Partner Edition
  • Microsoft BizTalk Server 2004 Standard Edition

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Microsoft BizTalk Server Message Queuing Adapter (MSMQT) to send a message to @"DIRECT=OS:NoSuchMachine\private$\NoSuchQueue1" and the send port has the Retry Count property set to 0 (retry count=0), the message appears to disappear and there is no indication that anything has gone wrong.

CAUSE

The Retry Count property does not apply to MSMQT. By default, the time to reach a queue for your message is 4 days (96 hours). If you do not specify a time to reach a queue for your message, MSMQT will suspend the message and will then pass the message to the backup transport after 4 days.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
