SUMMARY

By default, Project shows a contiguous bar for a task even through an interrupted period. An interrupted period, by definition, is the period between when a task stops working and when it resumes at a later date.

You can show a scheduled interruption on a Gantt Chart bar. If, for example, you have a task with a two-day duration that is 50 percent complete and a Gantt bar that is covering a whole year, you can create a bar to show the scheduled interruption.

Steps to Change the Palette to Show Scheduled Interruptions

In Project 4.x

  1. From the Format menu, select Bar Styles.
  2. Scroll down the list of bars and select the first blank row.
  3. In the Name field, enter Stop/Resume.
  4. In the Appearance column, select the same bar thickness to the default task bar and choose the White Color.
  5. In the Show For column, type Normal.
  6. In the Row column, leave the default number one.
  7. In the From Column, type Stop.
  8. In the To Column, type Resume.
  9. Click OK.
In Project 3.x

  1. From the Format menu, choose Palette.
  2. In the Bar Name, type Stop/Resume.
  3. In the Sample column, select the same bar thickness to the default critical/non-critical bar and choose the White Color.
  4. In the Show For column, type Normal.
  5. In the From column, type Stop.
  6. In the To column, type Resume. Choose the OK button.
