SUMMARY

In Microsoft Works when you save a Database module file in the dBASE III or dBASE IV format (from the File menu choose Save As), if a field is not wide enough to display all the information in that field in Form view, you will receive the following error message:
Some Field Text was Truncated

MORE INFORMATION

Works 2.0

In Works 2.0, if there are more than 23 characters in any field, you will need to adjust the field's width in List view as well as in Form view. A field should be wide enough to accommodate its biggest entry. For example, if a field contains the word "supercalafragalisticexpialodocious," you would need to adjust the field width to 34.

Works 3.0 and Works 4.0, 4.5, and 4.5a for Windows 95

Note that in Works 3.0 and Works 4.0, 4.5, and 4.5a for Windows 95, the width in List view does not matter, only the width in Form view. If the width in Form view is not set large enough, you get the "truncated" error msg.

NOTES:

  • If entries are created in particularly small font and/or point sizes, a field may appear to be wide enough to contain an entry even when it is smaller than the number of characters in its longest entry. This situation may cause an error message even though the field appears to be wide enough to display the field entries.

  • Field height is insignificant in exporting data. For example, if you change the form view field width to 60 and a height of 4, your dBASE field will be truncated to 60 characters. To get the full 255 characters possible when converting to the dBASE format in Works 3.0 and Works for Windows 95, you have to set the field width to at least 255.

  • The maximum field width in Works 2.0 and 3.0 and Works for Windows 95 is 325.
