User names are not imported when you use the Spin.exe tool in SharePoint Portal Server 2003. (867817)

SYMPTOMS

When you view the Manage Security settings for a subarea page on a server that is running SharePoint Portal Server 2003, you may find a user permission entry or a group permission entry that has a blank value for the user name or the group name, but the Permissions for this area have rights associated with it.

RESOLUTION

This problem is corrected in Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2003 Service Pack 1.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if you use the Spin.exe tool to import users and groups from a domain other than the domain where SharePoint Portal Server 2003 resides or if you are logged on by using local computer credentials.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
This problem was first corrected in SharePoint Portal Server 2003 Service Pack 1.
