SYMPTOMS

When a Microsoft ActiveX Data Objects (ADO)-based application uses the adAsyncExecute method to make an asynchronous call to the Connection.Execute method, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:
  • You receive access violation error messages.
  • The ADO-based application unexpectedly exits (crashes).
  • The ADO query returns no data because the fExecuteNoRecords parameter is set.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft Data Access Components 2.8 service pack that contains this hotfix.

Steps to apply the hotfix

  1. Exit all applications that use Microsoft Data Access Components.
  2. Make backup copies of all the Microsoft Data Access Components version 2.8 .dll files.
  3. Unzip the file MDAC28-KB867768-x86-ENU.zip.
  4. Run the file MDAC28-KB867768-x86-ENU.exe.
  5. Restart the computer.
