Cannot connect to a virtual machine or to the Administration Web site by specifying "localhost" in Virtual Server 2005 (867649)

SYMPTOMSAfter you configure the Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 Virtual Machine Remote Control (VRMC) Client program to use the IP address of a loopback adapter that has been added to the host computer, you may experience one or both of the following symptoms: CAUSEThis issue occurs if you specify the path of "localhost" in the virtual machine URL or in the Virtual Server Administration Web site URL. For example, this issue occurs if you specify a URL that is similar to the following to connect to a virtual machine: localhost:5900/virtualmachine1 RESOLUTIONTo resolve this issue, specify the IP address that is assigned to the loopback adapter when you type the URL to the virtual machine in the VRMC Client program or when you type the URL to the Virtual Server Administration Web site. For example, to connect to a virtual machine, type a URL that is similar to the following in the Connect to server dialog box of the VRMC Client program: 192.168.0.100:5900/virtualmachine1 WORKAROUNDTo work around this issue, configure the VMRC Server program to use the (All unassigned) IP address option. To do this, follow these steps: - Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft Virtual Server, and then click Virtual Server Administration Website.
- Type your credentials in the Connect to Servername dialog box, and then click OK.
- Under Virtual Server, click Server Properties.
- Click Virtual Machine Remote Control (VMRC) Server.
- In the TCP/IP address list, click (All unassigned), and then click OK.
