You receive a "Page cannot be displayed" error message when you browse the Internet from the guest operating system in Virtual PC for Mac (867514)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to use a Web browser in the guest operating system to browse the Internet, you receive the following error message:
Page cannot be displayed

CAUSE

You may experience this issue if there is a packet conflict on the Internet service provider (ISP).

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Quit the Windows guest operating system.
  2. Click Virtual PC, and then click Preferences.
  3. Click Scripting, and then click to select the Show Scripts Menu check box.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Click Scripts, and then click Set Networking Type.
  6. When you receive the following message, click OK: This script is a troubleshooting tool, and should generally only be run when instructed to do so by Microsoft
  7. When you receive the following message, click Change: The PC PC_Name is currently configured to use Shared Packet networking. Would you like to change the networking setting?
  8. Click Shared Sockets, click OK, and then click Done.
  9. Start the Windows guest operating system, and then verify that you do not receive the error message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section.
