You receive an access violation error message when you run the DNSLint tool to query a BIND-based DNS server from a Windows Server 2003 computer (867463)

SYMPTOMS

When you use the DNSLint tool to send a DNS query to a BIND-based DNS server, you may receive an access violation error message in response to the DNS query from the BIND-based DNS server. You notice this issue when the BIND-based DNS server where you send the DNS query is in a network that is running both Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based DNS servers and BIND-based DNS servers.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the DNS query response from the BIND-based DNS server contains data that is in a format that is not recognized by the DNSLint tool.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, install the latest version of the DNSLint tool.
