The connection dialer stops responding when the Multilingual User Interface is installed in Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional (843487)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to access the properties of a connection that was created by the Connection Manager Administration Kit (CMAK), the connection dialer may stop responding (hang). In this scenario, the Cmstp.exe or the Explorer.exe process may show high CPU utilization in the Task Manager tool.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the following conditions are true:
  • You install the CMAK from Microsoft Windows Server 2003 on a Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional-based computer.
  • The Multilingual User Interface Pack (MUI) for Windows 2000 is installed on your Windows 2000 Professional-based computer.
Notes
  • The Windows Server 2003 CMAK contains Connection Manager 1.3. However, the Windows 2000 MUI contains Connection Manager 1.2.
  • The installation of the Windows Server 2003 MUI on a Windows 2000-based computer is not supported, and it will not resolve this problem.
