FIX: A System.ExecutionEngineException error occurs on a computer where the .NET Framework 1.1 is installed when you try to import a COM type library (843294)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to import a COM type library, a System.ExecutionEngineException error occurs on a computer where the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 is installed.

This problem occurs when one of the following conditions is true:
  • You reference a type library in a Microsoft Visual Studio .NET project.
  • You use the Type Library Importer (Tlbimp.exe).

CAUSE

This problem occurs because source dispinterfaces that have properties are not correctly handled by the Type Library Importer (Tlbimp.exe).

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next .NET Framework 1.1 service pack that contains this hotfix.
