Versions of Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer that are earlier than MBSA version 1.2.1 are no longer supported (843183)

Microsoft no longer supports versions of MBSA that are earlier than version 1.2.1. Additionally, the Mssecure.xml file that these earlier versions of MBSA use to detect security updates will no longer be updated. Therefore, security analysis scans that you perform by using these earlier versions of MBSA will be incomplete.

Important This cessation of support for these earlier versions of MBSA also affects the following two Microsoft products:

• Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2.0 Software Update Services (SUS) Feature Pack
• Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003

Both of these Microsoft products use MBSA as their security scan engine.

MBSA version 1.2.1 contains significant improvements over earlier versions. Additionally, MBSA version 1.2.1 analyzes a greater range of products. Because these improvements are not available in the earlier versions of MBSA, and because these improvements cannot be added to the update detection catalog of the earlier versions of MBSA, we recommend that you upgrade to the latest version of MBSA as soon as possible.
