You receive an error message when you install the SideWinder Game Controller software 4.0 on a Windows 2000-based computer (842958)

SYMPTOMS

When you install the Microsoft SideWinder Game Controller software 4.0 on your Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following:
GcKernel.sys on Microsoft Sidewinder Signed Driver pack cannot be found.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the installation program does not detect the location of the file on the installation CD-ROM.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Start the SideWinder Game Controller software 4.0 installation program.
  2. When you receive the error message, click OK, and then locate the following file on the SideWinder Game Controller software 4.0 installation disk where cdrom is the letter for your CD-ROM drive:

    cdrom:\setup\setupdir\win2k
