You receive an "Error Code: -2147221005" error message when you use a WebDAV query to search a backward-compatible document library in SharePoint Portal Server 2003 (842685)

SYMPTOMS

When you use a WebDAV query to perform a deep traversal search of a document library (Web Storage System-based) in Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following:
Error Code: -2147221005

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because SharePoint Portal Server 2003 does not support WebDAV queries to backward-compatible document libraries.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use one of the following methods, depending on your situation:
  • Use the Search feature in SharePoint Portal Server 2003 to search backward-compatible document libraries on the portal site. For more information about how to use the Search feature to search the portal site, see the "Searching the Portal Site" topic in SharePoint Portal Server 2003 Help.
  • Use the Query Service Web service.
