Redial attempts and Average redial interval settings are reset in Routing and Remote Access service (842639)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2004, Standard Edition

SYMPTOMS

When you use a dial-on-demand connection with the Microsoft Routing and Remote Access service, the following settings may change unexpectedly:
  • The Redial attempts value is reset to zero.
  • The Average redial interval value is reset to one second.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when a change has been made to the network settings in the Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2004 (ISA 2004) ISA Server Management tool. The ISA Server Management tool uses Routing and Remote Access service API functions that cause the Redial attempts and Average redial interval values to reset. By default, the Redial attempts value is zero, and the Average redial interval value is one second.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, wait several minutes after the dialing operation to the remote server occurs. During this time, the initiating Routing and Remote Access server will retry the virtual private network (VPN) tunnel connection.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
