You receive a "SYNC_5" or a "MIS_5" error message when you try to synchronize your Pocket PC or Smartphone calendar with your Exchange 2000 Server, Mobile Information Server 2002, or Exchange 2003 Server mailbox (842541)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to synchronize the calendar on your Pocket PC device or the calendar on your Smartphone device with your Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server mailbox, your Mobile Information Server 2002 mailbox, or your Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 mailbox, you receive error messages that are similar to the following:
Synchronization failed due to an error on the server.
Try again later
Error Code: SYNC_5

Error: MIS_5
Synchronization failed due to a server software error. If the problem continues, contact your network administrator.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if your calendar contains very many calendar items.

In this scenario, a Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV) search request that contains thousands of REPL tags may generate a SYNC_5 or a MIS_5 error code.

RESOLUTION

Exchange 2000 Server
