The paper size of a printed fax may not match the size of the fax image in Windows Server 2003 (842460)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Datacenter Edition

SYMPTOMS

When the Fax Service receives a fax and routes it to a printer, the paper size of the printed fax does not match the size of the fax image. For example, a legal-size fax image may be printed on two letter-size sheets instead of on legal-size paper.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the Fax Service uses the paper size that is specified by the printer preferences. In Microsoft Windows Server 2003, the Fax Service cannot choose a paper size based on the size of a fax image.

MORE INFORMATION

To change the default paper size, follow these steps.

Note If you want to print a legal-size fax, make sure that your printer can print legal-size documents.
  1. Click Start, and then click Printers and Faxes.
  2. Right-click the printer that is used to print faxes, and then click Properties.
  3. On the Advancedtab, click Printing Defaults.
  4. On the Layout tab, click Advanced.
  5. In the Paper Size list, click the paper size that you want to set as the default, and then click OK three times.
