How to automatically populate the sign-in name for first-time users of Windows Messenger 5.0 (842296)

INTRODUCTION

When users run Microsoft Windows Messenger 5.0 for the first time, they are prompted for the service they want to use and for a sign-in name to connect to Microsoft Office Live Communications Server. You can run a batch file on the user's workstation that will automatically populate the sign-in name field.

To automatically populate the sign-in name field with the user name that the user uses to log on to the domain, run the following batch file on the workstation:

reg add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\MessengerService /v "UserMicrosoft RTC Instant Messaging" /t reg_sz /d "%username%@domain.com" /f > nu


Note This line may wrap for readability, but it must be on a single line in the batch file.
