SYMPTOMSWhen you try to install Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Standard Edition or Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Enterprise Edition on a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following: Microsoft Exchange Installation Wizard

update with error code 0xC103798A (please consult the installation logs for a detailed
description). You may cancel the installation or try the failed setup again. This issue occurs even though your computer meets the minimum system requirements. CAUSEThis issue occurs if the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) protocol returns the operatingSystemServicePack attribute for the global catalog server formatted as "SERVICE PACK 3" instead of "Service Pack 3." The installation program is case-sensitive to the LDAP data.RESOLUTIONTo resolve this issue, use the ADSI Edit utility to modify the LDAP operatingSystemServicePack attribute. To do this, follow these steps. Warning If you use the ADSI Edit snap-in, the LDP utility, or any other LDAP version 3 client, and you incorrectly modify the attributes of Active Directory objects, you can cause serious problems. These problems may require you to reinstall Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server, Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, or both Windows and Exchange. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems that occur if you incorrectly modify Active Directory object attributes can be solved. Modify these attributes at your own risk.
