You cannot view EMF image files that were created in Adobe Illustrator even after you install a hotfix (842092)

SYMPTOMS

Files that use the enhanced metafile format are known as EMF image files. Programs that use Microsoft Windows Graphical Device Interface (GDI) functions to open EMF image files do not correctly display EMF image files that were created in Adobe Illustrator. For example, EMF image files that were created in Adobe Illustrator do not appear correctly in Internet Explorer, in Windows Explorer, in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer, or in Microsoft Office.

This problem occurs even after you install the hotfix that is described in the following Knowledge Base article:

840997 You cannot view enhanced metafile format graphics files (or EMF image files) that were created in Adobe Illustrator

CAUSE

This problem occurs if you install the security update that is described in Microsoft Security Bulletin MS04-011 on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP or Microsoft Windows 2000. This security update enforces more stringent checks on the validation of metafiles and on the records that the metafiles contain.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, install security update MS04-032 that is included in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
