How to enable the ISAPI component on SQLXML on Windows XP Service Pack 2 (842005)

INTRODUCTION

This article describes how to enable the ISAPI component for SQLXML on computers that are running Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2.

By default, Windows Firewall is enabled on computers that are running Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2. Windows Firewall closes ports to prevent Internet computers from connecting to file and print shares on your computer or to other resources. To configure Windows Firewall to allow the ISAPI component network connectivity, follow the steps that are listed in the "More Information" section.

How to enable ports for HTTP and for HTTPS access

For the ISAPI component for SQLXML, you must enable ports for HTTP and for HTTPS access, if you are using HTTPS. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Run dialog box, type Firewall.cpl, and then click OK.
  3. In the Windows Firewall dialog box, click Add Port on the Exceptions tab.
  4. In the Port number box, type 80, and then click the TCP button.
  5. In the Name box, type a name for the port such as HTTP, and then click OK.
  6. If you are using HTTPS, type 443 in the Port number box, and then click the TCP button.
  7. In the Name box, type a name for the port such as HTTPS, and then click OK.
  8. On the Exceptions tab, you will see the new service. To enable the port, click to select the check box next to your new service, and then click OK.
If you decide to disable the ports, you can clear the check boxes next to your new services.
