SYMPTOMSWhen you right-click a computer name in the Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) Microsoft Management Console (MMC), and then you click Backup/Restore Configuration, you may receive the following error message: Internet Service Manager "The machine does not support backup/restore". This problem occurs if the File Transfer Protocol (FTP) service is the only IIS component that is installed on the computer. If you do not need the Web service on the server, disable the service. To install the Web service: - In Control Panel, open Add or Remove Programs.
- In the Add or Remove Programs window, click Add/Remove Windows Components.
- In the list of Windows components, click Internet Information Services (IIS), and then click Details.
- Scroll to the bottom of the list. Make sure that the World Wide Web Server check box is selected.
- Click OK, and then click Next to finish the installation.
To disable the Web service: - After the installation is complete, open Administrative Tools in Control Panel, and then double-click Services.
- Right-click World Wide Web Publishing Service, and then click Properties.
- On the General tab, locate Startup type. In the drop-down list, click Disabled, and then click OK.
