Stop error 0x0000000a occurs on a computer that is running Windows NT Server 4.0 Terminal Server Edition SP6a (841827)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 Terminal Server Edition SP6

SYMPTOMS

A computer that is running Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 Terminal Server Edition Service Pack 6a (SP6a) may stop unexpectedly. You may receive an error message that is similar to the following:
STOP: 0x0000000a (00000063,0000001c,00000000,8011baae) IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the following conditions are true:
  • A thread is performing drive letter mappings.
  • The thread uses the MupCreate function of the Multiple UNC Provider (MUP).
  • The thread holds the MupPrefixTableLock when the thread exits.

MORE INFORMATION

The MUP is a Windows service that helps locate network resources that are identified by the UNC (uniform naming convention). The MUP receives commands that contain UNC names from programs and sends the names to each registered UNC provider, to each LAN Manager workstation, and to any other providers that are installed. When a provider identifies a UNC name as its own, the MUP automatically redirects future instances of that name to that provider.
