The Win32_NetworkAdapterConfiguration.SetDNSServerSearchOrder method does not correctly modify the DNS server list in Windows 2000 (841811)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) Win32_NetworkAdapterConfiguration.SetDNSServerSearchOrder method to modify the DNS-server search order on a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer, this method may not correctly update the client network adapter. For example, assume that you use WMI to update the DNS-server search order for a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) client. The next time that the DHCP client registers with a DNS server by using the DNS dynamic update feature, the DHCP client may use the previous DNS-server search order instead of the updated search order.
