The Visual Studio .NET 2002 or Visual Studio 2005 Setup programs stop responding while the installation script is generated (841704)

SYMPTOMS

When you install Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2002 or Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, the Setup program may stop responding while the installation script is generated. Additionally, you see the following error message in the VSMSILogxxxx.txt file:
Failed to marshal script action.
Note xxxx represents four alphanumeric characters in the file name.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Windows Script Host is corrupted. Therefore, it cannot generate the installation script for the Visual Studio .NET 2002 Setup program or the Visual Studio 2005 Setup program.

RESOLUTION

To resolve the problem, reinstall the latest version of Windows Script Host. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. To download the Scripten.exe file, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
  2. Run the Scripten.exe file to install Microsoft Windows Script 5.6. The installation automatically installs Microsoft Windows Script Host 5.6.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
