The SMS Administrator console cannot display Windows Event Viewer, Windows Diagnostics or Windows Performance Monitor for Windows XP Service Pack 2 clients (841624)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003
  • Microsoft Systems Management Server 2.0
  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (SP2)

SYMPTOMS

You may not be able to use the Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) Administrator console to view the following tools for Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (SP2) clients:
  • Windows Event Viewer
  • Windows Diagnostics
  • Windows Performance Monitor
Although the clients exist on the network, you may receive the following error message when you try to start any one of these tools:
The network path was not found.
Additionally, the Windows\Pfirewall.log file may show that the SMS server queried all the file sharing ports. After the queries occur, you may receive the following error message:
The network path was not found.
This symptom only occurs if Windows Firewall logging has been enabled.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because Windows XP Professional SP2 turns on the Windows Firewall. The Windows Firewall blocks some network connections. Therefore, the SMS Administrator console cannot view the Windows XP Professional SP2 tools.

STATUS
