You receive an error message after you use the Import Object Wizard to import a report that you previously exported (841553)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003

SYMPTOMS

After you use the Import Object Wizard to import a report, you may experience one or both of the following symptoms:
  • The report may not contain the output that you expect.
  • You may receive the following error message:
    Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a0005'
    Invalid procedure call or argument
    /SMSReporting_sitecode/Report.asp, line 687
This symptom occurs if both of the following conditions are true:
  • You used the Import Object Wizard to import a report that you previously exported.
  • The report that you imported contains a link to another report or object.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the Export Object Wizard does not export all of the linked report properties. Reports can be linked to a target such as another report, computer details, status message details, or to a Uniform Resource Locator. For example, a report that is linked to computer details might not be exported. This might occur because the value that is stored in the SMS database that provides the cross reference between the computer details and the report is not unique to each site. If this value was exported and then imported to another site, the same value might already exist at the new site. Therefore, the value could be overwritten.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, remove the report link, and then recreate the report link. To do this, follow these steps:

Important You must complete these steps after you import a report that contains links and before you run the report.
  1. In the SMS Administrator console, expand Site Database (Site Code - Site Name), expand Reporting, and then click Reports.
  2. Right-click the imported report, and then click Properties.
  3. Click the Links tab, and then note the current link type setting. For example, the current link type setting might be Link to Computer Details.
  4. In the Link type box, click No link, and then click Apply.
  5. Before you close the Report Properties dialog box, change the link type from no link back to the original link type you noted in step 3.
  6. Click Apply.
These steps recreate a unique value for the cross reference between the report and the target. Additionaly, these steps recreate the link.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
