The SHBrowseForFolder function does not dismiss the wait cursor if an empty folder is selected (841547)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows CE .NET 4.1

SYMPTOMS

When an application calls the SHBrowseForFolder() function, a dialog box prompts the user to select a folder in the file system. However, if the user opens an empty folder, the wait cursor on the device may remain visible until the user moves the mouse.

If the user selects another folder that is not empty, the wait cursor is dismissed.

CAUSE

The tree-view common control that is used by the dialog box sends a TVN_ITEMEXPANDING message to notify the parent window that a subnode is expanding. If the node in the tree-view control is empty, the tree-view common control does not correctly notify the parent window. The tree-view common control does not send a TVN_ITEMEXPANDED message to the parent window to indicate that the node has been expanded. Therefore, the parent window of the tree-view control does not clear the wait cursor that was set when the expansion of the node was started.
