"Incorrect function. ID no: c0070001" error message when you perform an operation that requires disk access in Exchange Server 2003 (841481)

SYMPTOMS

When you use Exchange System Manager on your Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 computer for any operation that requires disk access, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following:

Incorrect Function.
Facility: Win32
ID no: c0070001
Exchange System Manager

For example, you may receive this error message when you try to turn message tracking on or to turn message tracking off. You may receive this error message when you try to create a new mailbox store.

If you try to change the location of the message tracking log files, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following:

An error occurred during a call to Windows Management Instrumentation
ID no: 80041013
Exchange System Manager

CAUSE

This behavior may occur when both of the following conditions are true:

Your Exchange Server 2003 computer is running in a clustered environment.
You are using the NSI Software Double-Take program for data replication on the cluster. A Double-Take Source Connection resource exists in the Exchange virtual server's cluster group.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, visit the following NSI Software Web site to download the latest version of Double-Take:

Note This issue was resolved by NSI Software in Double-Take version 4.3.3.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, follow these steps:

Remove all Double-Take Source Connection Resources in the Exchange virtual server group. To do this, delete the resource in the Cluster Administrator program.
Perform an operation that requires disk access, such as creating a new mailbox store.
After the operation is completed, re-create the Double-Take Source Connection Resources.

Note The error message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section may be returned by the Exchange System Manager when a non-Microsoft cluster resource other than Double-Take is listed in the Cluster Administrator program under Groups - Cluster Group. If the non-Microsoft cluster resource is the source of the problem, disabling the non-Microsoft cluster resource will not work as a workaround. You must remove the resource in the Cluster Administrator program.
