"Unable to open" error message when you click the file link on a shared page in OneNote 2003 (841467)

SYMPTOMS

When you click a file link on a shared page in Microsoft Office OneNote 2003, you may receive the following error message:
Unable to open
file:///path/filename.Cannot open the specified file.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the file was added to the shared page by a different participant of the shared session.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, add the document that you want to share as a shared page to your OneNote 2003 session. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Add a new page to your shared session page.
  2. Copy and paste the file onto your new page.
  3. On the Shared Session task pane, click Add Pages.
