SYMPTOMS

When you use Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server to index a Microsoft Content Management Server (MCMS) 2002 site, the indexing process may take a long time to complete. You only notice this issue all three of the following conditions are true:
  • You have resources or attachments on posting placeholders.
  • The resource or the attachment file has a Web page file name extension (for example, .html, .htm, .xml, .asp, or .aspx).
  • The resource or the attachment file contains relative links to another file that has a Web page file name extension.
One example of such a resource or an attachment file is a Microsoft Office thicket file. An Office thicket file is a Microsoft Word document that is saved in HTML format.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft Content Management Server 2002 that contains this hotfix.
