You cannot start Word 2000 after you install Works Suite 2002 (841217)

SYMPTOMS

After you install Microsoft Works Suite 2002, you may notice one of the following symptoms:
  • You cannot start Microsoft Word 2000.
  • Word 2000 appears not to be installed on your computer.
  • When you try to start Word 2000 from the Works Task Launcher, you receive an error message that is similar to the following:
    The task you selected is not available.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if both of the following conditions are true:
  • Microsoft Office 2000 is installed on your computer.
  • Word 2000 is set to the Not Available setting in the Office Maintenance Wizard.

RESOLUTION

Note Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.
To resolve this issue, reset Word 2000 to use the Run from my computer setting in the Office Maintenance Wizard. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  3. Under Currently Installed Programs, click the version of Microsoft Office 2000 that you have installed, and then click Change.
  4. Click Add or Remove Features.
  5. Click the Microsoft Word for Windows dropdown list, and then click Run from My Computer.
  6. Click Update Now, and then follow the instructions that appear on the screen to complete the installation.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Works Suite 2002.
