Router addresses in RIP become corrupted on a Windows 2000-based server (841186)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter Server
SYMPTOMSWhen you use the Routing and Remote Access Microsoft
Management Console (MMC) snap-in on a Microsoft Windows 2000-based server to
configure Routing Information Protocol (RIP) to accept announcements only
from specific routers, the router addresses may be corrupted or they may be set to 0.0.0.0 in the Routing and Remote Access MMC. If router addresses are corrupted or if they are set to 0.0.0.0, RIP no longer accepts any announcements from these
routers.CAUSEThis problem may occur if the IP addresses for the routers
are not sorted in descending numeric order, from lowest numeric value to
highest numeric value. This can cause IP addresses to be set to the value
"0.0.0.0".RESOLUTIONHotfix informationA supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes.
