FIX: An extra PlayCount right is decremented if you seek in a DirectShow program that contains DRM-protected content (841072)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Media Format 9 Series SDK

SYMPTOMS

When you perform a seek operation in digital content, you may notice that the remaining PlayCount right is decremented when the following conditions are true:
  • The content is DRM-protected by using digital rights management (DRM) technology.
  • The content uses the PlayCount right in a DirectShow-based program.
  • If the PlayCount right has reached 0 when you try to seek, playback may stop.
Note This problem does not occur with Microsoft Windows Media Player.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the filter graph is stopped and restarted during a seek operation. The Windows Media Active Streaming Format (WM ASF) Reader filter stops and restarts the filter graph during a seek operation. This behavior decrements the PlayCount right. The WS ASF Reader filter is used when you play back DRM-protected content in a DirectShow program.
