The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Works 7.0
  • Microsoft Works Suite 2004
  • Microsoft Works Suite 2003

SYMPTOMS

When you try to open a Corel WordPerfect template, the template unexpectedly opens in Microsoft Works.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because both WordPerfect templates and Works templates use the *.wpt file name extension.

RESOLUTION

Note Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.
To resolve this problem, use either of the following methods to make WordPerfect the default program to open templates that use the *.wpt file name extension.

Method 1: Reinstall WordPerfect

Reinstall WordPerfect according to the instructions that are provided by the manufacturer.

Method 2: Change the file type for the *.wpt extension

To change the file type for the *.wpt extension to WordPerfect, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, and then click My Computer.
  2. Click Tools, and then click Folder Options.
  3. On the File Types tab, under Registered file types, click WPT, and then click Change.
  4. On the Open With page, click WordPerfect, and then click OK.

If WordPerfect does not appear in the list under Programs, click Browse, and then locate the Wpwinxx.exe file, where xx is the version of WordPerfect that you installed. Click the Wpwinxx.exe file, click Open, click OK, and then click Close.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use the Open With command to open the template by using WordPerfect or by using Works. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Right-click the file that you want to open, and then click Open With.
  2. Click WordPerfect or click Microsoft Works Word Processor.

If WordPerfect or Works do not appear in the list, click Choose Program, click WordPerfect or click Microsoft Works Word Processor from the list under Programs, and then click OK.

STATUS
