You cannot bring the Exchange MS Search resource online in Exchange 2000 (840858)

SYMPTOMS

You cannot bring the Exchange MS Search research online. Additionally, you receive the following error message when you try to bring the Exchange MS Search research online:
The cluster resource could not be brought online by the resource monitor. Error ID: 5018 (0000139a).
Additionally, the following event ID error message may be logged in the application event log in Windows Event Viewer:

Event Source: Microsoft Search
Event Category: Gatherer
Event ID: 10009
Date: 1/29/2004
Time: 12:18:00 PM
User: N/A Computer: Computer_name
Description: An error occurred in the resource status monitor for instance <Exchange MS Search Instance - (Computer_name)>: 800706be - The remote procedure call failed.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft Exchange Server 2000 service package that contains this hotfix.
