A Windows XP SCSI-based miniport driver does not correctly send WMI SCSI request blocks to the storage device and to the storage adapter (840661)

  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional
  • Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
  • Microsoft Windows XP 64-Bit Edition

SYMPTOMS

After you install a small computer system interface-based (SCSI-based) miniport driver on a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer, the SCSI-based miniport driver may experience problems. These problems affect SCSI-based miniport drivers that support Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI). These problems occur when the Windows XP-based computer processes a WMI I/O request packet (IRP). The problems include the following:
  • When a WMI request is intended for the storage adapter, the SCSI service request block (SCSI_WMI_REQUEST_BLOCK) that is sent to the SCSI-based miniport driver indicates that the request is intended for the storage device instead of the storage adapter.
  • When a WMI request is intended for the storage device, the request is not sent to the SCSI-based miniport driver.
