You cannot gain access to linked Web pages from a Web site that you access through a desktop shortcut in Internet Explorer Service Pack 1 (840530)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1, when used with:
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional
- Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
SYMPTOMSWhen you save a shortcut to a particular Web site on your
desktop, and then you click a link on that Web site, you are unexpectedly
logged off the Web site and connected to a logon Web page. This issue occurs
when you use the desktop shortcut to open the Web site in Microsoft Internet
Explorer Service Pack 1.CAUSEThis problem occurs because the session cookie is not sent
to the hyperlinked Web page from the original Web site that you accessed
through the desktop shortcut. You must log on to the original Web site and then
obtain a new session cookie before you can gain access to the linked Web
page.RESOLUTIONUpdate information
