to an HTML document, and Static Compression is turned on in Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS), the data that is
downloaded to the HTML document does not always appear. Typically, the
document loads as expected on the first attempt. However, dynamic data may not appear when you try to download it again.CAUSEThis problem occurs because Microsoft Internet Explorer always reads compressed data as being cached, even
if the cache-control setting specifies a different value.RESOLUTIONHotfix informationA supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Internet Explorer 6 service pack that contains this hotfix. - Click Start, and then click Run.
- In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
- Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_TEMPORARYFILES_FOR_NOCACHE_840387 - Click Edit, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
- Type Iexplore.exe, and then press ENTER.
- Right-click Iexplore.exe, and then click Modify.
- In the Value data box, type 00000001, and then click OK.
- On the File menu, click Exit to quit Registry Editor.
WORKAROUNDTo work around this behavior for dynamic HTML (DHTML) functionality, turn off Static Compression
on IIS for maximum compatibility.STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that
this is a problem in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.
