Event ID 8 appears in the system event log after you break a mirrored volume in Windows Server 2003 (840165)

SYMPTOMS

After you create a software RAID volume in Microsoft Windows Server 2003, when you break that volume, the following event appears in the system event log:Event Type: Error
Event Source: Volsnap
Event Category: None
Event ID: 8
Date: date
Time: time
User: N/A
Computer: computername
Description: The flush and hold writes operation on volume C: timed out while waiting for a release writes command.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if you break the software redundant array of independent disks (RAID) volume by using the Diskpart tool. This event appears because of a problem in the Windows Server 2003 Logical Disk Administrative Service (DmAdmin).

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, ignore this event. This event does not indicate that there is a problem in Windows.
