INTRODUCTION

This article describes how to open pictures that are stored on a digital camera when you are using Microsoft Picture It! Photo Premium or Microsoft Digital Image.

MORE INFORMATION

There are three standards for transferring images from digital cameras. Determine the group that your camera uses for transferring images:
  • Virtual disk drive. The camera appears as a disk drive when it is connected to the computer.
  • Windows Image Acquisition (WIA). The camera supports the WIA/TWAIN standard for transferring pictures to a computer.
  • TWAIN. The camera supports the WIA/TWAIN standard for transferring pictures to a computer.
To download and to open pictures that are stored on a digital camera, follow the appropriate steps for the type of digital camera that you are using.

Virtual disk drive

  1. Connect the camera to the computer, and then turn the camera on.
  2. On the File menu, point to Get Picture From, and then click Digital Camera.
  3. In the Select a camera or drive list, click the drive that corresponds to your camera.
  4. Click Download.

The file browser opens and displays the pictures that you downloaded from the camera.
  5. Select a picture. To select more than one picture, press and hold down CTRL, and then click the pictures that you want.
  6. Click Open.

WIA and TWAIN

  1. Make sure that you have installed all the drivers and the software that came with your camera.
  2. Connect your digital camera to your computer, and then turn on the camera.
  3. On the File menu, point to Get Picture From, and then click Digital Camera.
  4. In the Select a camera or drive list, click the camera.
  5. Click Automatic Download.
  6. Click Download.

The pictures that are stored on the camera appear in the workspace.
  7. Click Download all pictures, or to download an individual picture, drag the picture from the workspace to the Files palette.
  8. Click Done.

Notes

  • Your camera must be connected and turned on before you start the digital camera task, or it will not appear in the list of cameras and drives.
  • If your digital camera is connected to your computer but you cannot see your pictures, make sure that the connections are secure, that the camera is turned on, and that the batteries are charged. The camera might not start downloading unless its batteries are fully charged. Some cameras are equipped with an A/C adapter that you can use instead of batteries.
  • If your camera does not appear in the list of cameras and drives, or if you receive an error message when you click Download, start your camera software from the operating system Start menu.
  • For more information about how to download photos by using the software that came with your camera, see your camera's manual.
