You cannot back up the information store in Exchange 2000 Server and event ID error messages are logged (840013)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to perform an online backup of the information store in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server, the backup operation is not completed successfully. A series of event ID messages that are similar to the following are logged to the application event log:

CAUSE

This issue may occur if both the following conditions are true:
  • A third-party e-mail disclaimer program such as eXclaimer for Exchange from Direct Communications Software Limited is installed on the server or a third-party program, such as Sybari Antigen for Exchange 7.0, that includes an e-mail disclaimer component is installed on the server.
  • The e-mail disclaimer program is preventing the backup operation from completing successfully.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, remove the third-party program from the server or turn off the e-mail disclaimer component of the program. For more information about how to do this, see the documentation that is included with the program or contact the vendor.
