PIF's Optional Parameters Not Used with Association (84668)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows 3.1
- Microsoft Windows 3.11
This article was previously published under Q84668 SUMMARY
The Associate command included with the Windows version 3.1 File
Manager allows you to associate a data file extension (.XXX) with a
certain program or Program Information File (PIF). If you use this
command, the optional parameters specified in the PIF are not used.
The optional parameters specified in a PIF work only when no other
parameters are specified.
This behavior is by design. There is no workaround to this limitation.
MORE INFORMATION
The File Manager's Associate command allows you to associate a data
file extension (.XXX) with a program or PIF. After you have done this,
you can double-click the data file in File Manager and load the file
into the associated application.
