Dashboard site is unexpectedly blank after you upgrade to SharePoint Portal Server 2001 Service Pack 2 (838679)

SYMPTOMSWhen you connect to an existing dashboard site after you upgrade your installation of Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2001 to Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2001 Service Pack 2 (SP2), you may find that the dashboard site is unexpectedly blank. You receive a message that prompts you to add content to the dashboard.CAUSEThis issue may occur if you connect to the dashboard site before Directory Browsing is enabled on the Portal folder for the workspace in Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS). This issue may occur if the following conditions are true: - You upgrade SharePoint Portal Server 2001 to SharePoint Portal Server 2001 SP2.
- You restart the server, and then you immediately connect to the dashboard site.
As part of the upgrade operation to SharePoint Portal Server 2001 SP2, Directory Browsing is enabled on the Portal folder for the workspace. The upgrade operation may take some time to complete after you run the Setup program and restart the server. If you connect to the dashboard site before the upgrade operation is completed, you may experience the symptoms that are mentioned in the "Symptoms" section of this article. RESOLUTIONTo resolve this issue, enable Directory Browsing on the Portal folder for each workspace in SharePoint Portal Server, and then restart the appropriate services on the server. To do so, follow these steps: - Enable Directory Browsing on the Portal folder for each workspace in SharePoint Portal Server. To do so:
- Start Internet Services Manager.
- Expand ServerName, and then expand Default Web Site.
- Expand the folder that represents the name of the workspace.
- Right-click the Portal folder, and then click Properties.
- Click the Directory tab.
- Click to select the Directory browsing check box (if the check box is not already selected), and then click OK.
- Repeat steps 1c through 1f for each workspace on the server.
- Quit Internet Services Manager.
- Stop the following services in the order that they appear on the following list:
- World Wide Web Publishing Service
- Microsoft Exchange Information Store service
- SharePoint Portal Server service
- Microsoft Search service
- IIS Admin Service
To stop a service:- Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Services.
- In the list of services in the right pane, right-click the service that you want to stop, and then click Stop.
- Start the following services in the order that they appear on the following list:
- IIS Admin Service
- Microsoft Exchange Information Store service
- SharePoint Portal Server service
- Microsoft Search service
- World Wide Web Publishing Service
To start a service:- Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Services.
- In the list of services in the right pane, right-click the service that you want to start, and then click Start.
- Wait approximately 10 to 15 minutes, and then connect to the dashboard site.
