The I-deas 10 program or the I-deas 11 program from UGS runs more slowly than you expect on a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer that is localized for an East Asian language (838657)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional
  • Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition

SYMPTOMS

When you run the I-deas 10 program or the I-deas 11 program from UGS on a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer that is localized for an East Asian language, the program runs more slowly than you expect.

If you run the same program on a computer that is running an East Asian language version of Microsoft Windows 2000, or if you run the same program on an English version of Windows XP, the program runs as quickly as you expect.

Note The localizations with which you experience this problem include all the following languages:
  • Japanese
  • Chinese-Traditional
  • Chinese-Simplified
  • Korean

CAUSE

The Uniscribe engine is added to Windows XP to handle fonts that are used for East Asian languages. This problem occurs because the I-deas 10 program and the I-deas 11 program repeatedly call the SetWindowText function. When Windows XP is localized for an East Asian language, the SetWindowText function uses the Uniscribe engine and the program run more slowly than you expect.
