You receive an error message when you run a Windows Installer package on a NetWare file server in Windows 2000 (838439)

SYMPTOMSWhen you run a Microsoft Windows Installer package that is located on a Novell NetWare file server, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following: Error writing to file \\Servername\vol\file.dll. Verify
that you have access to that directory.
The system cannot open the device or file specified. Note Windows Installer packages use the .msi file name extension. CAUSEThis problem occurs because of an error in Client Service for NetWare.
