Public folder replication information is not inherited when you create a public folder in Exchange 2000 Server or in Exchange Server 2003 (838104)

SYMPTOMS

When you create a new public folder by using the System Manager tool in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server or in Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, that public folder does not inherit the replication information from its parent folder in the public folder hierarchy. Therefore, the public folder information does not replicate to the other public folders servers as you expect.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if you click the Replication tab in the public folder Properties dialog box before you click Apply when you create the public folder.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Do not click the Replication tab

Do not click the Replication tab before you click Apply when you create a public folder. To add additional public folder replica information, first click Apply in the Properties dialog box to create the public folder, and then click the Replication tab to specify additional public folder replication information.

Method 2: Use Microsoft Outlook to create the public folder

This problem does not occur if you use Outlook to create the public folder.
