FIX: Internet Explorer may stop responding or you may receive an error message when you try to connect to Analysis Services by using HTTP or HTTPS (837982)



The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0

SYMPTOMS

When you try to connect to Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services by using HTTP or by using HTTPS in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0, Internet Explorer may stop responding or you may receive an "HTTP 500 (Internal Server Error)" error message in Internet Explorer.

Note This problem may not occur when you use the standard TCP/IP connection to connect to Analysis Services.

CAUSE

This problem occurs after you apply the Microsoft Internet Explorer Security Update MS04-004. For additional information about the Microsoft Internet Explorer Security Update MS04-004, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

This problem also occurs after you apply the hotfix in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

This security update (MS04-004) and the hotfix change how the Wininet.dll file retries POST requests with a blank header when a Web server resets the connection.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install the hotfix in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article on the client computer:
