FIX: Evaluation of variables still occurs when you disable the "Allow property evaluation in variable windows" debugging option in Visual Studio .NET 2003 (837892)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003, when you disable the Allow property evaluation in variable windows debugging option and then you debug a project, the evaluation of variables still occurs in the Autos window, the Locals window, and the Watch window.

Note In rare circumstances, the evaluation of static class properties may cause Visual Studio .NET 2003 to stop responding (hang).

CAUSE

This problem occurs because of a bug in Visual Studio .NET 2003. Therefore, even when the Allow property evaluation in variable windows is disabled, the debugger still tries to evaluate variables.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Visual Studio .NET 2003 service pack that contains this hotfix.
