You receive an "Error 1324" error message when you install Money 2002 (837885)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install Microsoft Money 2002, the installation fails and you receive an error message that is similar to the following:
Microsoft Money 2002 Installer Information Error 1324 the folder 'C:' contains invalid character.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if your installation of Money is corrupted.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, remove and reinstall Money. To do this, follow these steps in the order that they appear.

Remove Money

To remove your installation of Money, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. In the list of installed programs, click your version of Money, and then click Add/Remove.
  4. Click Yes .
  5. If you are prompted to keep or to delete shared components, click Keep All.
  6. Click Restart Windows.

Reinstall Money in a different folder

To reinstall Money in a different folder, follow these steps:
  1. Insert the Money CD-ROM in the CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive.
  2. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen until you receive a dialog box that has the Welcome! message.
  3. Click Custom, and then click Next.
  4. In the Path box, type the following line where drive is the drive letter of the hard disk where you want to install Money:

    drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Money02

  5. Click Next.
  6. Select Complete Installation or select Basic Installation, and then click Next.
  7. Click the Install button, and then follow the instructions that appear on the screen to finish installing Money.
